The JKB won week 5 by an astounding 47%, earning themselves a spot in the second ultimate finalist round and coming within 2 wins of the ultimate prize.  In week 8, JKB was up against two great acts – After Never, a Chicago band and One Last Hurrah, from Tallahassee.  This is where the ride would come to an end, but not before the band had a chance to perform live on CBS’ Studio 10 where the JKB played two songs, Still and their hit single, In Your Heart, which was at the same time receiving national attention on CBS’ Early Show.

We can be sure to see this band continuing their musical journey in the years to come.    With Tim Poole on Harmonica sealing up the band’s harmonies and Geni Poole and Jeff Martin providing the foundation on bass and drums, this band has many more headlines to make.

“…introduce viewers to the three latest bands in the competition (We post the videos of Adam and the guys on this page, in the column on the right). Then, we ask you to pick, via an online vote on CBSNews.com, from among the three bands for that week. Over the course of 12 weeks, viewers will narrow the list to the final three, then vote on them to name America’s favorite new band. The ultimate band will be invited to perform on The Early Show the week of Sept. 24 — the kind of television and Internet exposure bands dream about!”

About John Kelly
John is from Teaneck, NJ and, a country boy at heart, John followed his heart and moved to Nashville in 1995, where he joined forces with some of Music City’s finest. John’s style has been dubbed “an alternative country, crossover, rootsy sound full of strong melodies and honest lyrics.” Together with his band, Leftfield Jackson, John was discovered by the owners of the newly built East Iris Recording Studio where the group put together their first demo, scoring them the headline act for the Tennessee Titan’s season opener. Inspired by the studio experience, John went on to start his own studio, “The Hideaway”, which he currently runs from St. Petersburg, FL.

“The Early Show” has held a contest all summer called “Living Room Live: Battle of the Bands Edition” allowing bands to compete each week for airtime.

The John Kelly Band from St. Petersburg, Florida was the last Bay area band to make the cut.

The viewers’ choice, with almost 47 percent of the vote, was the John Kelly Band.  JKB will be back in three weeks for the second Finalists’ Round on CBS’ Early Show.  Beginning Aug 13, the second Finalists’ Round will put JKB up against 2 more bands, one of which will become the next Ultimate Finalist.

The John Kelly Band is comprised of John Kelly on lead guitar and vocals, Tim Poole on guitar and backup vocals, Geni Poole on bass and Jeff Martin on the drums.  As the momentum builds and this group gets some national press, JKB is also getting some attention from TV and radio locally in the Tampa Bay area as well as in their hometowns of Teaneck, NJ and Haddysburg, MS.  On July 31, JKB will be playing LIVE on CBS Studio 10 (St Petersburg, CH 10) at 10:45am.

CBS News and the Early Show are holding a “Living Room Live Video – Battle of The Bands” contest for unsigned bands across the nation. “A video recording of one song holds the ticket to being flown to NYC to perform live on the Early Show,” said John, singer-songwriter and frontman of JKB. “Our bass player Geni Poole found the contest and told me about it… I had everyone come over that night after work to record one of our favorites, In Your Heart, and that was it,” John said. The band has been together a little over a year and has won over the St. Petersburg, FL area where they perform. “We’re really having a lot of fun… we’re all friends and everyone seems to really enjoy the music. My band has helped create a sound that I truly have loved since I started playing…acoustic driven, no BS, honest music,” John said.

JKB will also be playing a few tunes live on St. Petersburg’s CBS channel 10 July 31st at 10:45 AM. Don’t miss them. A fresh approach to the basics, good songs, good lyrics and good melody make up this alt country four piece from St. Petersburg, FL.
